Pwani University Smart Librarian AI 🤖

Pwani University Smart Librarian is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered library assistant developed by Harun Peter Okello Ouma to enhance access to Pwani University Library services, information resources, academic research support and intelligent information discovery.

The system is developed using Python, Flask, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with ChromaDB providing vector storage and retrieval capabilities for its Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) framework. It uses a structured knowledge base together with institutional library information to provide contextually relevant responses to users.

The Smart Librarian supports natural language interaction and conversational assistance, allowing users to ask questions about library services, books, the library catalogue, electronic resources, eBooks, eJournals, MyLOFT, the Institutional Repository, theses and dissertations, research resources, examination papers, opening hours, library policies and other relevant library services.

The system incorporates Ollama and a Large Language Model (LLM) to generate intelligent responses, while its retrieval capabilities connect users with authoritative Pwani University Library information and resources. Integration with Koha, DSpace, electronic resource services and other library systems further supports information discovery and resource searching.

The Smart Librarian provides an intelligent and accessible AI driven digital library service developed specifically for Pwani University Library. It enables users to interact with library information, resources and services through a purpose built artificial intelligence system designed, developed and configured specifically for the University's library environment.
